What is multi-factor authentication (MFA)?

MFA (also sometimes called 2FA) adds an extra layer of security by requiring users to provide multiple forms of identification to access systems. This type of authentication makes it much harder for attackers to gain unauthorized access, even if they have access to a stolen password.
